Curry Club May 2025 – Thai Balcony
The Lodge of Honour Curry Club took a delightful detour from our usual curry night to enjoy the vibrant flavours of Thailand — and what better place than Thai Balcony in Bath, perched above the city with its charming riverside views.
As ever, the evening was filled with laughter, conversation, and camaraderie. In fact, we were so engrossed in chatting and eating that we completely forgot to take any photos of ourselves! Fortunately, we did manage to capture some snapshots of the stunning food.
Here’s what we ordered:
- Beef Keemao – Stir-fried beef with fresh chilli, garlic, bamboo shoots, green beans, and Thai basil in a spicy, aromatic sauce. A fiery favourite!
- Chicken Garlic – Tender stir-fried chicken with garlic and white pepper, served with crisp vegetables — simple, comforting, and delicious.
- Duck Curry – A rich red curry with roast duck, pineapple, tomatoes, and lychee in a creamy coconut sauce. Sweet, savoury, and perfectly balanced.
- Grilled Chicken (Gai Yang) – Marinated Thai-style grilled chicken, served with spicy dipping sauce — smoky, juicy, and full of flavour.
- Beef Basil – Classic Pad Kra Pao: minced beef stir-fried with Thai basil, chilli, and garlic, topped with a fried egg. Spicy, savoury, and utterly satisfying.
- Panang Chicken – A smooth, rich curry with tender chicken simmered in Panang curry paste and coconut milk, finished with kaffir lime leaves for that citrusy lift.
Of course, plenty of jasmine rice accompanied the dishes to help mop up every last drop of those incredible sauces.
The food was excellent across the board — fresh, vibrant, and packed with authentic Thai flavours. While it wasn’t curry in the traditional sense, it was every bit in the spirit of the Curry Club: sharing great food, great conversation, and great company.
Here’s to the next Curry Club meet — and maybe, just maybe, we’ll remember to take a group photo next time.
